Taiji Quan exhaling and inhaling is really an analogy, which explains “storing and releasing, opening and closing, drawing in and expanding”. It doesn’t relate to normal breathing at all. The distinction needs to be clarified and understood properly. The words “inhale” and “exhale” have nothing to do with our everyday natural breathing, but are simply analogies of Taiji Quan applications. Most practitioners do not understand the distinction between these two types of breathing and this misunderstanding may cause some very serious difficulties for practitioners if they do not understand the Hao style Taiji breathing analogy properly. There are three basic Taiji breathing characteristics:
1. Taiji breathing only relates to Taiji Quan
2. Taiji Quan breathing is controlled by the mind and is passive
3. Taiji Quan breathing is performed according to the differing needs of each Taiji Quan practitioner

Thank you very much for your kind words. The main thing is to remember that Taiji breathing is only a comparison to normal breathing. Instead, it should be thought of as the "inhalation" and "exhalation" of the opponent's Qi.
